I was best friends with John's (Mr. McKeown to me at the time :) since we were in 3rd grade. I spent 10 years of my life with J, at his house, with his dad and grandfather, all the time during this time. Part of who I am is from Mr. McKeown's influence. I feel a part of the family, sharing experiences with J and Matt with McK. I cried for a few days when he died. Mr. McK wouldn't let people make fun of me. He respected me. He made me feel valued. When I was having trouble in school, he made me feel like a good kid, and he was right. And he made me realize it. One day, J made fun of me for trying to meet up together and riding my bike a different route to his house. J went looking for me the other way. J called me a knucklehead and Mr. McK wouldn't have it. He stood up for me. His core value was dignity of others and I learned it from him firsthand. I think about him often. I didn't know he was dying the last time I saw him, but he dressed up very nicely and had lunch with me and shook my hand. Obviously, he knew it was coming. He didn't want me to know. That's the strength of Mr. McK's character. I won't forget his example.

John was an avid basketball player back in our youth in Fairview. We spent many hours on the courts at Yorkship School and ICAC. We reunited our friendship on the dance floor at places like the old Runnemmede Inn, Richeez, etc. where he talked constantly about his young family members and their accomplishments on & off the field. His friendship will be sorely missed by us all. God bless Mary and his family.

Mary and Family,
So sorry to hear about John's passing. John was one of the best dancers around. He was always willing to help you learn the latest line dance, no matter how long it took. We have many happy memories of the many places our crowd use to go to every Saturday night.

John, I'm sure they have old time rock & roll up there and you'll be dancing, kidding around with everyone, and enjoying comfort and peace without pain and worry. Thanks for all the memories. Karen & Skip
