Published by Legacy Remembers from May 14 to May 17, 2011.
John Raymond McTavish July 23 1933 May 12, 2011 It is with deep sadness that the Family of Ray McTavish announce his passing, at 77 years of age, on May 12th 2011, in the Davidson Health Centre, as a result of Diabetic complications and long term illness. Ray is missed and lovingly remembered by Grace, his wife of 56 years; three sons and their Families, Garth (Virginia), Darrell (Andrea) of Calgary, and Les (Rhonda) of Saskatoon, and his Grandchildren Meghan, Alexandra, Amy, and Zachary. He will also be missed by all his McTavish Cousins, and brothers and sistersin law, nieces and nephews in the McComb Families. Ray was predeceased by an infant son, Graham Allen, in 1958; his parents John and Ethel McTavish, his sister Viva Irving and her husband Bill Irving, his only brother Cpl Stanley McTavish, killed in action in 1944, and his in-law parents Robert and Marie McComb. Born July 23, 1933, on the McTavish Homestead in Angusville, Manitoba he moved with his Family in 1937 to Solsgirth, Man. where he grew up and farmed with his Dad until 1956. On September 1st 1954 he married Grace McComb of Shoal Lake, Man. and they moved to Saskatoon the fall of '56. Ray spent the next few years as a Saskatoon City Police Officer, then an operator at Coop Chemical Plant; but always spoke of himself as a farmer rancher, spending many years in Pike Lake area and Biggar, caring for his precious cattle and horses. At semi retirement he spent 13 years as a hail adjuster with Municipal Hail, and enjoyed the time spent in farm yards all over Saskatchewan. He considered it a stroke of luck to spend 10 years in Meadow Lake, and finally Elbow, enjoying the lakes, fishing ,hunting, golfing, and his cherished outdoors. Being an ardent sportsman all his life, he was honoured to be inducted into the Sask. Baseball Hall of Fame with the Asquith Braves in 2007. Ray was a great story teller and enjoyed telling of the wonderful trips with Friends and Family throughout North America, Mexico and Hawaii. He especially enjoyed the motor home trips. He is not gone who lives in the hearts of those they leave behind. A memorial service to celebrate Ray's life will be held Wednesday, May 18th, 2011 at 2:00pm, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Elbow SK, with Pastor David Hesje officiating. In lieu of flowers the Family would appreciate donations in Ray's memory be sent to Davidson Health Centre Foundation. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Mourning Glory Funeral Services. 978-5200.

Les, I will always remember the great days and time I had meeting your family and playing "Slow Pitch" with your Dad Ray, while I was living in Biggar. He was a great guy and I never ever heard him say a bad thing about anybody. May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.
