John Eric Mize

John Eric Mize, 57, of Lexington, South Carolina, passed away on February 11, 2024. Born on November 14, 1966, in Garland, Texas, John was known for his razor wit, intelligence, loyalty, and stubborness. He was also a very caring and kind man. He loved his two sons, Benjamin McLynn and Stephen Andrew, more than they will ever know. John succeeded in the face of incredible adversity throughout his life. He lived life on his terms - honestly and with courage.

In addition to his sons, John is survived by his daughter-in-law, Maria, and his grandson, Sean Lincoln. He is also survived by his sister, Diana Guenther Lackey, brother-in-law Ashton Lackey, sister-in-law Vicki Guenther, as well as a nephew, nieces, great-nieces, and great nephews.

The family expresses a special thanks to Veronica Koon and her family who blessed John with friendship and many acts of kindness over the past year. He thought the world of you.

John was preceded in death by his father, Billy Joe Mize, mother Ruth Helen Johnson Mize, brother Billy Joe Guenther Jr., and his birth father, Billy Joe Guenther Sr.

John held an accounting degree and ended his working career as an Accountant/Fiscal Analyst at the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control. Outside of work, he enjoyed word puzzles, Sudoku, Backgammon, incorporating the newest technology into his home, watching television shows which he loved discussing with friends, and embarrassing his sister whenever possible on Facebook. While he was still able to physically do so, John was a volunteer with the IRS VITA program and helped many clients complete their tax returns free of charge each year. He was very proud when his son, Andy, was able to assist him in those efforts.

No services are planned at this time. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Ronald McDonald House or St Jude Children's Hospital. The Thompson Funeral Home in Lexington, SC, is assisting with the arrangements.
