John Mook Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jun. 22 to Jun. 29, 2023.
John (Jack) F. Mook, 83, of Leet twp. died Tuesday June 20, 2023. He was born on October 4, 1939, in Pittsburgh, PA to Frederick & Isabelle (Heshler) Mook. Jack served as a police officer for 42 years. His career began in 1965 as a Patrolman in the City of Pittsburgh serving many positions over 27 years. He retired from the city as the Assistant Chief of Investigations, in 1992. He then became the Chief of Police for the borough of Sewickley, where he served for 15 years, retiring again in 2007. Jack was a graduate of the FBI Academy in Quantico, Va. He was also an Instructor at the Police Academy for several years. Jack was an avid runner, beginning in the 1980's in North Park as a part of the Hot Harry's Running Club. He has completed many Triathlons, Marathons, and races, including the Pittsburgh, Boston, and Marine Corp Marathons. Most of which, he would finish first in his age group. In 1984, Jack was recognized by a sports association in Groenoble, France for placing in the top eight marathon finishers of the New York Marathon, who work in the field of law enforcement. He had the privilege to carry the torch for the Special Olympics Run. Jack was also an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed camping, fishing and boating. He could be found every morning working out at Jack's Gym where he made many friendships with the young boxers and attended all their fights. There's nothing he loved more than his dogs and his family.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 54 years, Jacqueline (Waddell) Mook; daughter, Beverly Dimond; son, Ronald Edward Mook; son, John David (Mary) Mook. Grandchildren; Christie (Jerry) Kaelin, Melanie Mook, Michael (Dawn) Dimond, Donald (Cindy) Dimond, Josh Mook, and Jessee Mook. Great-Grandchildren; Marisa (Kamea) Lowe, Mikayla & JJ Kaelin, Chase & Kennedy Dimond, and Cory Boehm. Siblings; James C. Mook & Virginia Brown. Also survived by a host of other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, John Brown and his son-in-law, William J. Dimond, Jr.

There will be no visitation, as his wishes were to have his body donated to science. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at St. Stephens Anglican Church, 405 Frederick Ave., Sewickley, PA. 15143, at 10am with light refreshments served until 1pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or to Jack's Boxing Gym for youth development and sponsorship, both of which were very important to Jack.

My heartfelt sympathy to the family. I was his secretary when he was the assistant chief of Investigations. He was a wonderful boss and friend, and I enjoyed the many years I worked with him and listened to stories about his family, pets, and running experiences. Great memories! May he Rest in Peace.

I didn´t realize it until I saw the notice that Ron and I were friends with Jack when we ran at North Park. When I was a Commissioner I tried to get him as Chief of Police inRoss. Jack was a wonderful, kind and always a gentleman. Molly Maloney Daly

To the Mook family, I am so very sorry for your loss. Chief Mook was a wonderful man. I worked for the city and that's where I met him. He always had a beautiful smile. He was a very admirable man. He will be missed.
