MULLIN, John J. Age 91, of Braintree, died peacefully, Thursday, January 22, 2015 at the Alliance HealthCare Center at Braintree, surrounded by his loving family. He was born, raised, and educated in Boston. John had lived in Braintree for seventeen years, previously living in Brockton for twenty-seven years, and earlier living in Dorchester. John served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was stationed aboard the USS Hake (SS-256) and received the World War II Victory Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the American Theatre Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medal with one star, the Philippine Liberation Medal with one star and the Submarine Combat Insignia with three stars. He worked as a typewriter mechanic for forty-five years at the former L. C. Smith & Corona Company in Boston. John was a member of the John P. McKeon Post # 146 and the VFW Saint Mark's Post # 1758 both in Dorchester. Beloved husband of the late Jean M. (Francis) Mullin. Devoted father of Priscilla J. Mullin and her husband Gordon L. Doerfer, Honorable, Retired of Needham, Sean F. Mullin and his wife Cheryl Charles of East Boston, and Catherine M. McKeone and her husband Jim of Hingham.Loving grandfather of Byron and Lora Doerfer, Sarah Mullin, and Liam, Meg, and Bridget McKeone. He was predeceased by his four siblings. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, Tuesday, January 27th at 10 a.m. Funeral Mass in Saint John the Baptist Church, 44 School Street, Quincy at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting Hours at the funeral home Monday from 4 - 8 p.m. Interment with military honors at Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. In lieu of flowers, donations in John's memory may be made to the Hospice of the South Shore, 30 Reservoir Drive, Rockland, MA 02370. Dear Priscilla, Gordon, Byron and Laura, Our sincere sympathy on the passing of your beloved father, father-in-law and grandfather. In the few times I met him, I thought he was a "hot ticket" yet a gentle soul. I am sure he will be missed as I know he was well-loved.
