MURCHIE, John
With much love and sadness we announce the sudden passing of John Archibald Murchie. Survived by his loving wife Fidelma "Filly" and family. Predeceased by his daughters Sherri and Bonnie. Survived by his sister Margaret and brother Ronald. John was machinist by trade, businessman, entrepreneur, innovator and lay preacher. As a young man John acquired his uncle's small tea business and turned it into the now famous Murchie's Tea and Coffee company. Murchie's tea stores exist today across Vancouver and in Victoria, along with the company warehouse in Yaletown now known as "The Murchies" building. All of his life John was a passionate advocate for housing the homeless in Canada and globally. Greatly loved and never forgotten. A friend to all he met and kind to man and beast. So beloved, this was the measure of John. God called him home and took him gently into His arms. He leaves a great void. Memorial will be held at Boal Chapel in North Vancouver on February 20, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Union Gospel Mission.
