A devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, John was preceded in death by his parents, brother Matthew S. Murray III, brother-in-law, George Gregas, sister-in-law Donna Shively and his mother and father in-law

John graduated from Normandy High School in St. Louis, MO. and then went on to Ft. Hays State College in Hays, KS where he received his Bachelor of Science in business and graduated in 1964. He was listed in the book of "Outstanding Young Men of America" in 1972.

He started his career with Travelers Insurance Company as a Senior Account Analyst from 1964-1970; Adam Kohl Ins. Co, Account Analyst from 1970-1972. He returned to Travelers in 1972. After he retired, he became a crossing guard for Garland ISD and worked at his granddaughter's elementary school for many years and continued even after she moved on to middle school. John was a sports fan and loved college football but baseball was his favorite sport. In 2011, he was thrilled to attend Game 3 of the World Series with the Texas Rangers and St. Louis Cardinals. He especially enjoyed Texas A&M football. He and Carole would travel to College Station for games when his daughter Michelle was in school there and continued to attend games for many years after her graduation.

He was a charter member of the Firewheel Senior Golf League, a parishioner of St Joseph Catholic Church in Richardson, he was a Third Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus, he was involved with The Society of St. Vincent De Paul, and participated, along with his wife Carole, in the Worldwide Marriage Encounter Movement, he belonged to the Brotherhood of St. Andrews Men's Group, and various book clubs and breakfast groups. Reluctant at first, he became a devoted "dog" dad and grand"dog"dad to Tramp, Casey, Lucy and Maeve.
