John Robert "Bob" Nelson, 83, of East Moline, died Monday, September 5, 2011, at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus. Funeral Services will be 9 a.m. Saturday, September 10, 2011, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 356 16th Ave., East Moline. Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Friday at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601-38th Ave., Moline. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, where he was a lifelong member. Bob was born January 31, 1928 in Moline, the son of John G. and Hilma Toline Nelson. He married Ruth Arlene Dahlin on February 10, 1956, in East Moline. She preceded him in death on May 5, 1989. Bob was a very hardworking man. He started his career as a typesetter then later moved to the bindery department at DeSaulniers Printing Company, retiring in 1993 after 45 ½ years. While working at DeSaulniers, Bob painted houses inside and outside and also worked as a maintenance man at Dr. Harold Perlmutter's office for 28 years. Bob was profoundly deaf his entire life which helped to shape him to be a very active and a hardworking man. In his younger years he enjoyed playing baseball, bowling and rolle bolle. Bob made friends everywhere he went, whether it was swimming at the YMCA 5 days a week, at the Viking or Svithoid Club, or playing euchre at the East End Club. Above all of his hobbies, he loved to spend time with his family and friends.
