NEVILLE _ John (Jack) Noel Educator and Writer Father and Grandfather Born December 21, 1913 _ Died June 22, 2002. Our father died peacefully of old age at his home in Vancouver. He is survived by his children, Helen June Neville, Keet Neville, Drew Neville and Fergy Neville and by his grandchildren Emma Neville Kendall, Justin Neville Kaushall, Lucy Neville, Julian Neville Kendall, Cleo Neville, Liam Neville Kendall, Mason Neville and Spencer Neville. Our father was predeceased by his wife, Sheila Morrison Neville, and their son John Morrison Neville. John was born in Kerrobert, Saskatchewan, the first child born to Dr. John Donald Neville and Sarah Kathleen Ferguson. John and his sisters, Ruth and June, spent their early years growing up and attending school in Vancouver. John was awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Saskatchewan followed by a degree in Education. He devoted five years to the war effort from 1940 to 1945. John met and married Sheila Morrison Neville after a whirlwind courtship in 1944. Over the next several years he was a high school teacher, counselor, principal, district superintendent and then taught in the department of Education at the University of British Columbia. Jack's interests always included writing, discussing and observing the delights and ironies of life. The social changes of the sixties were fodder for his poetry and he incorporated some of the best of alternative thinking into his life. Badminton, gardening and chess enhanced an active body and mind. Jack was a founding member of Kitsilano Amnesty International, the West End Writers' Group, The Writer's Workshop at Langara College and the Burnaby Writers' Society. He was a prolific and published poet. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Amnesty International with whom Jack worked for many years. Burial 2pm Tuesday, June 25, 2002 at Mountain View Cemetery, 41st and Fraser St., Vancouver. We will celebrate Jack's life from 7 to 9pm Tuesday, June 25, 2002 at 3425 West 2 Avenue in Vancouver, BC. Our Grandpa Jack Was sharp as a tack Left on Saturday And won't be Back!
