John G. O'Malley

John G. O'Malley SMSGT, Ret, 86, of Fort Collins, passed away January 11, 2009. John was born May 30, 1922 in Pittsburg, Kansas to Theresa O'Malley and Jack Gerald Bausleaux. John was united in marriage to Betty Sronce on December 3, 1946 in Bellevue, Kansas. In 1940, he enlisted into the Army Air Corps and served during WWII, the Korean conflict and Vietnam conflict. He was a Radio Operator on B17's and B26's and participated in the Normandy Invasion. John flew until 1950 and then retrained into the NSA and retired in Roswell, New Mexico in 1972. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross and thirteen Air medals. After 31 years in the Air Force, he went back to school at Eastern New Mexico University where he received an Associate's degree in Political Science. In 1974, John moved to Fort Collins where he taught ROTC at Poudre High School from 1974-1976 and was a clerk of the District Court for the State of Colorado in Larimer County from 1976-1986. In 1987, John and Betty moved to Lincoln, Nebraska until 1999 when they moved back to Fort Collins. John is survived by his wife Betty O'Malley of Fort Collins; sons, Michael O'Malley (Lynda Latta) of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Timothy O'Malley (Jennifer) of El Paso, Texas; daughters, Patricia (Dave) Perlinger of Paxton, Nebraska and Barbara (Charles) O'Malley-Wikstrom of Fort Collins; 11 grandchildren, 2 great grandsons and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 9-11am, Thursday, January 15, 2009 at Allnutt Drake Chapel with the funeral service beginning at 11:00am followed by a reception in the Allnutt Reception Center.
