John Odom, Jr. Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Oct. 11 to Oct. 14, 2023.
John Wiley Odom, Jr. was born August 17, 1940 to John Wiley Sr. and Alice Bertie Odom. He passed away on October 10, 2023 in Ponca City at the age of 83.

John joined the Air Force in 1962 and served 20 years. He was stationed all over the U.S. and four years in Germany. After the military, he taught at the Vo-Tech and retired from teaching in 1990.

He married Susan Elizabeth Laughlin on November 30, 1963, and they would have celebrated their 60th anniversary next month.

John is survived by his loving wife, Susan; his sister Eva Ann Green and husband Bob; his children Amy Hollingsworth and her husband Russell, Michelle Roberts and her husband Glenn; grandchildren Jessica, Madison, Alexis, Karlee; great grandchildren James, Matthew, Sutton, and Rowan. He is preceded in death by his only son, John Wiley Odom III who passed away in 1989.

John loved to travel. Along with Susan, they traveled to every state and to 26 countries. They have numerous friends in Florida and Lake Havasu City, Arizona, as they have been snowbirds for many years.

In addition, John loved to watch sports, especially college and professional football. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

A come and go ice cream celebration in John's honor will be held on October 28 from 2:00-4:00 at his daughter Amy's home. Family and friends are invited to come and wear their favorite sports attire, as John would have loved for everyone to have a good time.

Riding with John and Sue to the Las Vegas Airport and not taking the airport exit because John had a much quicker route. I did make my flight, barely...lol. I just smiled and chuckled to myself once I got on the plane. I appreciated the ride and their kindness. John's quick wit and humor will be missed at our coffee table in Havasu. My condolences Susan and family.

First remembrance of John standing in the living room at 3691 Parkview, Lake Havasu City, Arizona, checking out the TV and remote while Susan checked out the house. Passed it by that year because he didn't like the TV. Came back to it last year and loved it. We were ready to welcome him back there this year.
Jennifer and I loved when he came in our office to tease the heck out of us. We will miss his visit and jokes. Our blessings and love to you, Susan and family.
