Nelson Spencer "Jockey" Rogers

ROGERS Funeral Service for Mr. Nelson Spencer "Jockey" Rogers will be held at 11AM, THURSDAY, June 16, 2005 in Lewis Memorial A.M.E. Church, Rev. A. Jones, Pastor, officiating. Mr. Rogers of 1668 Rowe Ave. passed away June 10, 2005. He was a native of Winter Park, FL, having resided in Philadelphia, PA for many years before relocating to Jacksonville. For over 60 years, while living in Philadelphia, he was employed as an Electronic Mechanic. Other affiliations include WWII Veteran serving in the U.S. Army. Survivors include his sisters, E. Irene Grant and N. Inez Dansey; nieces, Margarette Blacknard, Vivian King, Mercedease Brooks, Alynne Horne, Hattie Grant, and Arwyn Mallory (Abe Warren); nephews, Leonard Witherspoon (Beth), Eugene Witherspoon (Marge), James, Jr., Joseph (Elizabeth) and Virgil Grant and William Collins, Jr. (Sonny); 54 grandnieces and grandnephews, including special grandniece and special grandnephew, Joan Howard and Anthony Horne; 33 great grand nieces and nephews ; 41 great great grandnieces and nephews; a host of other relatives and friends, including caregivers, John Thomas, Annie Burrell and Florence. Mr. Rogers will rest in the mortuary for visitation of friends Wednesday (TONIGHT) from 5PM until 8PM (where the family will receive friends at 5PM) and in the church Thursday from 9AM until the hour of service. Interment will be in Edgewood Cemetery. The cortege will assemble at the residence under the direction of ALPHONSO WEST MORTUARY, INC., 4409 Soutel Dr.(766-9671).
