John Peters Obituary

John Cody Peters (1953 - 2024)

John Cody Peters, age 71, of Northridge, CA died on November 20, 2024 in Boise, Idaho. He was born in Pasadena, CA to Ralph and Barbara (Cody) Peters and was the fourth child and first son of their six children.

John was a fabricator, welder and foreman for Reno Sheet Metal until he retired at the age of 50. He was an avid hobbyist who enjoyed a lifetime of many great experiences that brought him many friendships and that became the source of countless amazing stories and memories. Fly fishing was one of his great loves and he enjoyed tying his own flies. John spent a lot of his free time fishing at rivers, lakes and streams, and he also enjoyed ocean fishing. John also had a love of boats - starting with sailing at young age. As he grew older he enjoyed working on them, water skiing behind them, and even spent many years racing crackerbox boats. During his boat racing career with his boat "Bloodandguts" his racing name was John "The Donut Man" Peters. John also always had a serious love for cars and engines, and for the duration of his life he always had at least one or two car rebuilding projects going on. John also spent a lot of time helping people he knew work on their cars, building great relationships and impacting many lives. In his younger years John raced dirt motorcycles, Baja bugs, stock cars and legend cars. He also enjoyed flying remote controlled glider airplanes and dynamic soaring for nearly his entire life.

John is an uncle to four nieces and six nephews, and a great- uncle to 8 great-nieces and 6 great-nephews. He was formerly married to Vickie Skilling, and then later shared part of his life with Jeannie-Marie Baxter. John's nieces and nephews and Jeannie's two daughters were like children to him, and he even fondly referred to his great-nieces and great-nephews as his 'grandchildren' in his later years. John always loved kids and teenagers, and he poured countless hours into not only the kids related to him, but also into the kids of his good friends.

The impact that John had on lives around him were numerous and far reaching. One outstanding characteristic of John was his generosity- with his time, knowledge and resources. He has been referred to as a "legend" by many friends and family members and many have expressed how their lives were positively affected by him. John is greatly missed by everyone that had the opportunity to be a part of his life.

When John was a teenager he gave his life to the Lord and professed salvation through Jesus Christ. Leading up to his death, John affirmed that he knew he was saved and that his hope for eternal life after his last breath here on earth was in Christ.

John was preceded in death by his parents: Ralph and Barbara Peters, and is survived by his siblings: Susan (Willard) Michlin, Anne (Chuck) Lindeen, Lisa (Johnny) Gotham, Danny (Stephanie) Peters, and Abbie Peters; nieces: Holly (Brian) Frederick, Sara Gotham, Rachael Michlin, and Katie (Jon) Gittings; nephews: Jason Wasser, Nick Gotham, Andrew Peters, Josiah (Kim) Peters, Aaron Michelin and J.D. Peters; former wife: Vickie Peters; longtime partner: Jeannie-Marie Baxter and her two children Christina Baxter and Angela Lara.

"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time."
