SALEM- John Phillip Martin 31, of Salem, died unexpectedly, January 5th, 2017 at his home. Born in Kilgore, Texas, he was the son of James Lee and Grace L. (Williams) Martin. He was raised and educated in Salem and attended Salem High School. While in High School, John was a member of the Salem High School Football and Wrestling teams. A loving son, brother, uncle and great uncle, John enjoyed spending his time hunting and fishing. He was an avid athlete and enjoyed the sport of boxing in his adult hood. A talented artist, John enjoyed the artistry of tattoos and took great pride in his ink work. He especially loved to personally apply his creative artwork on his family and friends. Although he battled through many difficult times in his life, John was always a loving and caring person to his family, who will be greatly missed. John is survived by his parents, James Lee and Grace L. (Williams) Martin of Salem, his siblings, Jennifer Mettlen and her partner Shaun Springer of Peabody, Jason Harris and his fiancé Amanda Rock of Concord, N.H., James Martin Jr of Georgia, his nephews, Brandon, Jacob, Michael and Jeffery, his great nephew, Maddex. He was the brother of the late Evan Martin. ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral services are private. Sending my love and condolences to the family. Heartbreaking, truly. I will forever remember our childhood climbing trees and eating tacos on the brick wall in the backyard, catching animals and lots of laughs. John will be missed and forever in our hearts.
