John Pittard Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 22, 2010.
John S. Pittard
LONE STAR - John Sharpe Pittard was born March 15, 1925 to Mary Sharpe and Benton M. Pittard in Orange County, North Carolina. He graduated from UNC at Chapel Hill and served as a U.S. Army Air Corps pilot during WWII.
He owned and operated numerous motels and restaurants in the southeast and had the honor and the responsibility of being the "Best Western Governor" of South Carolina for the Best Western motel chain for twenty years.
A devoted Lutheran, John helped to form mission churches and served on a number of church leadership committees throughout his life. He was a member for many years of Pine Grove Lutheran Church in Lone Star, South Carolina, where he enjoyed teaching Sunday school.
John was a lover of the natural world. In support of this belief, he helped to maintain pristine lake waters by serving on the Lake Marion Association.
John lived his life with passionate energy every day, whether he was traveling the world, building a business, working in the yard, or playing canasta at the dining room table. He was an extraordinary gardener, decent fisherman, avid bird watcher, and there is no one who could tell a story any finer.
Quick, funny, strong and wise, he had many close life long friends who helped so much near the end. His last concerns were for those friends and family and mostly, of course, for his "Dear Love".
John Pittard was preceded in death by his brother, Bernelle (Pitt) Pittard and by his first wife, Beverly H. Pittard.
He is survived by his "Dear Love" and wife of thirty five years, Jeanette B. Pittard, his twin sons, Jan (Becky) Pittard and Tracy (Nancy) Pittard, stepsons Tom Trotter and Ron (Terri) Trotter, four grandchildren Nicole Lebron, Paige Fleming, John Douglas Pittard and Camille Leaman, five stepgrandchildren Andrew Trotter, Will Carrasquillo, Niki Carrasquillo, Andromeda Burley and Adrianna Burley, three great grandchildren, two nephews, Dr. John (Michelle) Pittard and Jay (Heidi) Pittard and many step nieces and nephews and grandnieces and nephews.
Pall bearers are Doug Pittard, John Pittard, Jay Pittard, Tom Trotter, Ron Trotter, Andrew Trotter, Richard A Felder, and Jim Capaldi. Honorary Pall bearers are Bill Carson, Bill Marks, Kelly Bond, Bobby Ebner, Carlo Lebron, and John Fleming
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 23, 2010, at Pine Grove Lutheran Church in Lone Star, S.C. A visitation period will be from 6:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m. Monday, February 22, 2010, at Fogle Hungerpiller Funeral Home, Elloree, S.C.
Memorials honoring John's life can be made to the Home Health/Hospice Program at Regional Medical Center, 3000 St. Matthews Road, Orangeburg, S.C. 29118 or Pine Grove Lutheran Church, 2688 McCord's Ferry Road, Lone Star, S.C. 29030

Dear Tracy & Jan,

Donna just sent me a copy of your father's obituary today, I did not know of his passing.

I am so sorry. Your parents were very special to me and I have such wonderful childhood memories of our many get togethers. At the lake, cookouts, at your dad's hotels and at church. I wish you all the best and feel very lucky to have known your sweet father.

My love to you all,
Deborah Freeman Auld

To my sister,Jan and all the family,

GOD BE WITH YOU AND MAKETH HIS FACE TO SHINE ON YOU, HE IS MERCIFUL AND FULL OF GLORY.

John has left this earth that he loved, to go to a better place prepared for those who have made HIM their Savior. John was precious and kind and loved you all unconditionally. GOD gave you such a precious period of time to collect all those memories he shared so that you could share with the next generation of Pittards.
Lanny will be there for us tonnight and know that I would be there if I could with all my love.
I am so glad we had those Friday's during John's treatment to talk and share.
GOD BLESS AND KEEP EACH OF YOU.
With all my love,
Shirley

Dear Jan & Tracy and families,
I am sorry to read of the passing of your Dad. I pray God's peace and comfort for you and yours at this time. May you find encouragement in these words of Jesus, our Lord and Savior, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son that he who believes on Him should not perish but have everlasting life." ... "For I am the Way, the Truth and the Life, no man comes to the Father except through me." ... "In my Father's house are many mansions...if I go to prepare a place for you, I will come and take you unto myself."
My prayers are with you and your families.
Yours in Christ,

Michelle Garner

Knowing (Granddaddy) JP made my life richer and I will miss him. I'm so grateful for the love and leadership he showed Andrew and I know that Andrew's life will be better for having had such a wonderful influence.
