John Hardy Porter
John Hardy Porter, 80, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on June 11, 2018. Born April 6, 1938 in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of Harold Porter and Madeline (Dietrich) Porter.
John grew up in Rowayton and Wilton, CT and attended Wilton Public Schools and Kents Hill School in Maine. He graduated from Marietta College, Marietta, Ohio in Petroleum Engineering. He was an avid sailor and enjoyed the water. He loved woodworking and refurbishing antiques. He was an active member and past President of the Great Pond Club and also enjoyed time with his grandchildren and family.
John is survived by his wife of 36 years, Rosmarie Christa Porter, his daughter Christine Sherwood (Tom) of Easton and his stepson Eric Hochadel (Claudia) of Bethel; also by his sister Jean Kincaid (Eugene) of Rhode Island, his grandchildren, Natasha and Jessica Sherwood, Rutger Hochadel and Christopher Noyes.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, June 19 at 10:30 a.m. at Wilton Congregational Church, 70 Ridgefield Road, Wilton, Interment will immediately follow at Hillside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8517. To offer the family online condolences please visit www.boutonfurneralhome.com.

My wife and I have known John for well over 30 years as our neighbor. He was always ready to help, always kind, always a gentleman. I will miss him dearly.
