John Raines Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 5, 2022.
John Raines passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on July 22, 2022. In the weeks prior to his death, many friends and family were able to say goodbye and his family is grateful for the time we shared at the end.

After graduating with a B.A. from Auburn University in 1977, John worked in Ground Operations for Delta Airlines for 18 years, earned an M.A. in Education, and became an Academic Advisor for the College of Engineering at Auburn University. He retired in 2016.

John leaves behind so many who loved him for his generous nature, wisdom, kindness, big hugs, and ever-present sense of humor. He loved golf, cooking, reading, music, conversation, and spending time with his many four-legged friends.

John is survived by his wife of 38 years, Kimberly Harrison Raines; siblings Joan Layne, Vic Raines, and Laurel Raines; nieces Keirsten Kelly, Amanda Hampton, Lily Raines; and nephew Jack Raines.

In lieu of gifts, please consider a donation to the charity closest to John's heart - the Lee County Humane Society.

Laurel Raines was my roommate at Auburn. I heard many wonderful stories about the Raines tribe and I offer deep condolences for their loss.

Kim, I never met John, but I loved him because he loved you so much.

You mentioned John from time to time over the years when met up RVing and in our many e-mails. Just normal, sweet things about what he was doing, what he was cooking, etc., and his time spent with you and Doris, Walter, and now Henry. You always painted a picture of such a loving, caring man that I felt I knew him.

John will be remembered and missed by many, and even by some who never met him.
