Dena and I Are Heartbroken To Hear Of The Passing Of John. We Always Enjoyed Seeing Him At The CMAA Events In And Around Columbia, MO. When He Was In Town, He's Was Just A Joy. To His Wife And Family, Dena and I Send Our DEEPEST HEARTFELT CONDOLENCES, We, As All Of Us In The Central Missouri Astronomical Association, Will Miss Him Deeply.
Thank You For Your Service To Our Country And Rest In Piece John.

So sorry to belatedly hear of John's passing. He was a member of the Central Missouri Astronomical Association for many years and visited us at least once a year until a decade or so ago. First photo is from November 1999 during the Leonids meteor shower. John was observing with us in spite of some serious cold. Second photo shows John at Laws Observatory at his Alma Mater, the University of Missouri. He is using a hand-held laser to give a star tour to several student visitors.

I am sorry to hear of John's passing through the Amateur Telescope Makers of Boston (ATMoB) newsletter. When I worked in the planetarium at the Boston Museum of Science, John was one of my contacts for the ATMoB. He and members of ATMoB came to the Boston Museum of Science and made presentations for the public on Astronomy Day. I last saw him about 13 years ago at an astronomy conference in NJ. He was always upbeat, cheerful and thrilled to get other people interested in astronomy.

Sorry for you loss. He was a very good friend. He helped me with the same telescope he had a Mead DS-16. He will be very missed at the clubhouse.
Regards Henry
