John William Regan, 87, of West Hartford, beloved husband of 66 years to his high school sweetheart Virginia Ashworth Regan, died January 31, 2024. Born and raised in Newport, RI to the late Edward Francis and Helen Church Regan. Following graduation from Rogers High School, Newport, RI, John earned his Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering at URI. After completing his duty in the Army Reserves, he was employed by Combustion Engineering for 40 years. During his tenure, he became Director of the Fossil Fuels division, conducting business on six continents. In his spare time and after retiring, John loved nothing more than spending time with family. He and Virginia travelled extensively including riding camels in Egypt and glamping on the Serengeti. He volunteered for the local library, teaching computing and delivering books to the elderly. John and Virginia were members of Asylum Hill Congregational Church, enjoying community activities such as bus trips to Manhattan. He was the consummate host, whose talents included mixing the best pomegranate cosmos. John was a second lieutenant in the US Army Reserves. In addition to his wife he is survived by his daughters, Sheryl Fennell (Tim) and Christine (Tom Erickson, Jr.). He was predeceased by his brothers Edward and Richard, and sister Margaret Regan.
