John Ritter Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 13, 2025.
John T. Ritter, 90, passed away on March 9, 2025, in Marietta, Georgia.

Born on January 1, 1935, in Kansas City, Missouri, and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma, John dedicated his life to education and intellectual exploration. He earned a Ph.D. from the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, reflecting his deep commitment to learning. As a physics professor at the Dallas County Community College District for 25 years, he inspired countless students with his passion for science and discovery.

Beyond his academic career, John was a gifted artist who found joy in painting and drawing, capturing the world with creativity and precision. He had a profound love for nature and cherished hiking in the mountains of Colorado. Music also brought him great happiness-he was an avid admirer of classical compositions and the songs of John Denver.

John will be remembered for his kindness and empathy, qualities that endeared him to those who knew him. Above all else, he was a devoted father and grandfather. He is survived by his children: Lake, Chandra, Will, Doug, and Kevin; as well as his grandchildren: Summer, Douglas, Waylon, Roxy, Sabrina, and Skyler.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Janet Ritter; his parents, Riley and E.H. Ritter; his brother, William; and his sister, Sara.

John's memory will be treasured by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his life continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
