John ROGERS Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 18, 2015.
ROGERS, "Jake" John Weldon - Died peacefully April 14, 2015. Husband of late Sheilah Rogers (nee Semple), father of Kelly Mistruzzi (John) and John McRogers (Jo-Ann). Loving Papa to Luke (Rebecca), Nika (Steven), Jesse, Jack and Jerri. Great-Papa to Henry Finn Mistruzzi. Son of Geraldine and Weldon Rogers, survived by his sister Joan Sorokan (Steve). Graduate of Port Credit High School (awarded a gold watch for not missing a day of school until grade ten), part of the wonderful T55 gang at University of Toronto, eventually earning his Masters of Education. Jake's own journey as an Educator started in the gym, progressed to Curriculum Consultant, included many summers heading the Principals' Course and culminated as Provincial Attendance Counsellor. He thrived in all these roles but always felt the best years were those he spent with students and the thousands of athletes he coached in every sport going. Jake married his OAO in '57 and family life on Overbank was established. Together they made dear friends on every step of their journey: Don Mills, Oregon, Stratford, New Hamburg, Sanlan, as well as, in their travels. Jake continued to win hearts right down the stretch, at Amica and recently at Southlake Regional Health Centre in Newmarket. There once was a teacher, friend and Dad Everyone who knew him was glad Though his day is done The man was fun And that's why this news ain't so sad. A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, April 26th at Hart House, U of T, Debates Room, beginning at 1 p.m. Bring your limerick! If desired, donations in memory of Jake may be made to Parkinson Society Canada or Right to Play Canada. Online condolences may be made at www.roadhouseandrose.com

I will never forget my uncle Jack. I remember when I was in grade 8 and I made the football team I got home and told my mom (Joan Rogers Sorokan) I wanted to tell uncle Jack I made it. I think she knew with the time change from Alberta he was probably asleep. Sure enough I woke him up but I still remember how happy he was for me and his words of encouragement. I will miss you uncle Jack and Auntie Sheilah.

We were very saddened to hear of Jakes passing but once again, the thought of him also brought many fond memories to mind.
Jake and She were one of those couples that you just loved to be around. Both when we Garner kids were children and as adults they were always genuinely interested in how and what you had going on in your life. They had such a love of life.
I will always remember Jakes deliberate spoonerisms, and wonderful sense of humour.
Our condolences to the Rogers clan.

To Kelly & John: I'm sorry for your loss. Your Dad was really special! Of all my childhood friends parents - Jake was my favourite "Dad". He was sweet, funny, and devilishly fun. He leaves a legacy of many great memories to make us all smile. He will never be forgotten.

Great man down, never to be forgotten. There will always be fond memories of Jake's sincere handshake, genuine greeting smile along with his uncanny ability to find the boys (twice!) under age drinking in the park behind chez Overbank. Big hug to the Rogers/ McRogers family. The Joy of Life is always with him. Cheers!

So sorry to hear about Jake's passing. We will miss him very much. Spent many hours with both Jake and Sheilah in SanLan and their home in New Hamburg. It was an honour to have known both of them.

To the Rogers's family may you celebrate a life well lived. We will cherish the memories forever, we had many good card games with your Dad at Sanlan and also had a few jokes to tell he was a wonderful man.
