Midland, GA- SFC (Ret.) John Edward Harris, 75, of Midland, GA died Friday, August 19, 2016 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, August 25, 2016 at the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907 with Reverend James York officiating. Interment will be held at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
SFC (Ret.) Harris was born January 8, 1939 to the late Jim and Millie Harville Harris. He retired after 24 years as a Sergeant First Class in the U.S. Army. He was awarded the Purple Heart, 5 good conduct medals, a national defense medal, and a Vietnam service medal with five bronze stars. SFC Harris was a Mason and was a loving husband and father.
Survivors include his loving wife of 51 years, Armanda Harris; sons, Sean Harris, Donnie Harris, Aaron Harris, and Alan Harris; siblings, Mary Abernathy, Dorothy Paige, Rella Gosh, Anthony Harris, Raymond Harris, and Willie May Paige; seventeen grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Rip Mr. Harris... though I never got the pleasure to meet you personally, we are bonded together as family! You raised a fine man that I am proud to call my better half and the father of my children. You are greatly missed and thought of often. The holidays are here and I know that it's a hard time for many that you knew and loved you because you are not here to share them with. I pray that they find strength to carry them through this difficult time of year. You were a great husband to Armanda and father to the boys and i know they all miss you sooo much, but they carry you always in their hearts and forever will! The family chain may have a missing link now, but one day when we are all reunited that chain will be whole again.

Dad, there will never be another like you! Just the other day, I took time to myself, and out of hurt and love, I shredded more tears. I know the thing about death comes to all of us. But why did you have to go.... I know since you will be gone, my spare time my tears will fall out of love and respect for you...
