John Schneider Obituary

John Nicholas Schneider, Jr., 69, of South Worcester Street, Norton, a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, died Wednesday evening, August 29, 2007 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was the beloved husband of thirty years to Ruth F. (Lombard) Schneider.
Born in Attleboro on January 5, 1938, Mr. Schneider was a son of the late John N. and Florence (Dugas) Schneider. John was raised and educated in Attleboro and was a graduate of Attleboro High School, Class of 1957 and was a member of the Glee Club. Mr. Schneider was a graduate of both the Wentworth Institute in Boston and later Rhode Island School of Design in Providence. He was also a graduate of Lee Institute of Real Estate in Boston.
Mr. Schneider was a self-employed building contractor, building mainly homes, and operated the former John N. Schneider Company in Attleboro, a company founded by his father. John starting building at an early age and continued building through out his life until illness forced retirement from the contracting business five years ago. He was currently employed as a real estate broker for the Walter P. Smith Reality Company in Norton.
Mr. Schneider served many years in the United States Army Reserve as a Sergeant in the 320th Military Police and as a Mess Sergeant. John was a member of the Norton Lions Club, the Ezekiel Bates Masonic Lodge in Attleboro, served as a City Councilor for the City of Attleboro, served as a Selectman on the Board of Selectmen for the Town of Norton and was a member of the Norton Planning Board. A talented woodworker, John enjoyed traveling, camping, socializing with family and friends and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his beloved wife, Ruthie, Mr. Schneider is survived by four sons: R. Michael Schneider and his loving companion Nancy Foisy of Norton, David J. Schneider of MA, Kent D. Campbell and his wife Karen of Norton and Craig S. Campbell and his wife Gail of Bridgewater, NH; four daughters: Susan R. Parramore and her husband Keith of Citra, FL, Patricia A. Matteson of Summerville, SC, Sharon L. Comey of Attleboro and F. Marie Leo and her husband, Alan of Cheyenne, WY; a brother: George W. Schneider of Attleboro; a sister: Norma Martins of Hillsboro, TX, seventeen grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
John was the beloved father of the late Susan C. Schneider.
Family and friends are kindly invited to attend visiting hours on Monday, Labor Day, September 3, 2007 from 5 PM – 8 PM in the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, 20 Peck Street, Attleboro. A funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at 10 AM in the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home by the Rev. Gordon Merten. Mr. Schneider will be laid to rest in Norton Common Cemetery in Norton.
In continued appreciation to the care extended to Mr. Schneider’s late daughter, Susan, during her illness the family encourages donations in memory of Susan C. Long Long ago we once were neighbors on Horton St Attle. i was one of the youngest fisher i seen dad's picture and wanted to stop in and tell you that your dad was a wonderful man i called upon him once when he was a city coucilman while i ran the Union Theatre.
