John Sanders Schwartz, 64, of Mandeville, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at Lakeview Regional Hospital in Covington surrounded by his devoted family. John is survived by his wife Bridget Westover-Schwartz and their four children, Leslie (Chris) Merchant, Christiane (Scott) Gammage, Sanders (Caroline) Westover-Schwartz, Sellers (Matthew) McClanahan, five loving grandchildren, his mother Mary Frances Schwartz and brother James Porch Schwartz, Jr. "Poppy" was an exceptional husband, a loving father and always put his family first. John was a devoted friend, an avid hunter and sportsman and lived his life according to Christ. John graduated from Metairie Park Country Day School and spent his college days at Tulane University. He followed in his father's footsteps at Jimco Concrete Family Business and went on to become a real estate broker and tax consultant. John was a member of numerous local organizations including the New Orleans Crime Commission, Young Presidents Organization, and a faithful member of Saint Timothy's Methodist Church. Funeral services for John will be held at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd, New Orleans on Friday, July 26, 2013. Visitation begins at 1:00 p.m. followed by services at 2:00 p.m. He will be laid to rest with his family in Metairie Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in John's name to the Cure JM Foundation for Juvenile Dermatomyositis at He will be remembered and loved every day.
