John Baptista Silveira

John Baptista Silveira, born in Terra Do Pao, Pico, Azores Portugal, joined the angels on July 3, 2022 at the age of 74. John immigrated to the Bay Area in 1972, settling in Newark, where he lived for 45 years. No stranger to hard work, John primarily worked in the very physically demanding and sometimes dangerous field of pipeline construction, working on projects in and around the bay area.

John had a passion for music, cultivated by his father and brothers, all of whom played the guitar. John enjoyed playing the guitar for the Portuguese mass at St Edward's Parish. His musical talent was not limited to the guitar. A few minutes with any instrument would have most people convinced that he'd been playing it for years.

Growing up on an island, he was always happiest being by the ocean, preferably with a fishing pole in hand. Like many in the Portuguese community, his fishing hole of choice was Half Moon Bay. John is survived by his sisters Rosa and Maria, his two sons Eldon and Eric, their wives Trisha and Heidi, and his three grandchildren Crispin, Benjamin and Avery, with whom his main purpose was to make them smile. John also leaves behind a large number of family and friends who would describe him as a kind and loving man.

John is welcomed with open arms into Heaven by his parents, Joao and Rosa Silveira, and his two brothers, Manuel and Lionel.

A funeral service will be held at St Edward's Parish on Tuesday August 23, 2022 at 10:30 AM, followed by a reception at the Portuguese-American Pastoral Cultural Center, next door.
