John Slaton Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 20, 2025.
John Earl "Johnny" Slaton, 79, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2025, in Spartanburg, South Carolina, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on September 16, 1946, in Spartanburg, South Carolina, Johnny was a lifelong resident of the community he cherished. He graduated from Spartanburg High School in 1965 and went on to earn his degree from Spartanburg Methodist College. A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Johnny served his country with honor and dedication.

Johnny was deeply rooted in his Presbyterian faith and lived a life guided by devotion to family and community. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Mary Ann Harmon; his children Marc Slaton (Solika) and Tricia Tankersley; and his stepchildren Anna Turner, Erin Gladstone, and Harmon Turner. He was a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. His home was also shared with two beloved dogs, Scooter and Riley, along with three cherished "granddogs," Lola, Gunther, and Phoebe.

A man of many passions, Johnny found joy in cheering for Clemson Tiger and Carolina Panther football teams. He loved grilling out with family and friends-moments that brought laughter and warmth to those around him-and took great pride in tending to his garden.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl Slaton and Anne Brock Slaton.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Anna Turner, Crystal Trail, and Hospice of Interim Healthcare for their unwavering devotion and compassionate care during Johnny's illness.

A celebration of Johnny's life will be held at a later date.

May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
