John Henry Smith, 88, of Linden, passed away at the Williamsport Regional Medical Center on Saturday, July 13, 2013. He was the husband of Judith A. Gerheim Smith with whom he shared 48 years of marriage. John was born in Pine Run, PA and was the son of the late J. Roscoe and Margaret Brooks Smith. John served in the US Navy for 12 years and then went onto serve for over 27 years in the Navy reserves. John was a member of the Lycoming Christian Church, the NRA, Bald Eagle Rifle League, PA Rifle & Pistol Association, Original PA 1000 Yard Bench Rest Club and the Lycoming County Consolidated Sportsman Club. He taught several shooting programs in Norfolk, VA for the US Navy Seals. John is survived by his wife Judith, a son Mark A. Smith of Jersey Shore, two daughters, Eileen Graboski (Edward) of Williamsport, Leslie A. Stokes (John) of South Williamsport, a step-daughter Shawna R. Hakes (Victor) of Williamsport, a brother Clyde Smith of Dewart, PA, a sister Helen Day of Jersey Shore and by 12 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. John was predeceased by a daughter Bonita Younkin, two brothers and three sisters. Relatives and friends are invited to attend John's Life Celebration on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 from 1-2PM at the Lycoming Christian Church 20 Chapel Hill Rd. Linden, PA. A memorial service will follow on Wednesday at 2PM at the church. Pastor Ron Savits will officiate the service. Interment will be private. In John's memory memorial contributions may be made to the Bald Eagle Rifle League PO Box 165 Avis, PA 17721. The funeral arrangements are in the care of the Rearick-Carpenter Funeral Home, Ltd.
