Brother of Mark (Julie), Bro. Mary Ambrose O. Cart., Michael and Elizabeth (Christopher) Quinlan. Special and loving friend of Claire Bessette. Further loved by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mass of Christian Burial Thursday, September 19, 1:00 PM at ST. JOHN VIANNEY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1755 N. Calhoun Rd. He was formerly a business partner of Steinhafels Furniture and was currently a real estate investor and property manager in the Milwaukee area. John was a sports and classic movie enthusiast. He loved spending time with his family at Crystal Lake, Vermont and Florida. John had a special way of connecting with people. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, quick wit, generous and loving heart. His family will especially miss the good times spent with J.D. at the many circuses, sporting events, and museums that he loved to share with all. JD,
I can’t believe it has been 7 years! You will never be forgotten! The impact you made on me is forever in my heart. We shared so much as true soul mates! I appreciate all of the good times, family times, laughs, fun, and love of life that you exuded. I was privileged to know the "real" you as we shared our lives & planned our future together. You will always be remembered, loved, & special to me

It will be 4 months since you have been gone. I miss you as much today as I did 4 months ago. As I read through these entries I realized I had met or heard about each person & experience as you shared them all with me. You touched so many lives during your time on earth. You lived two lifetimes in the space of one:) I'm glad we shared some of your happiest & most memorable times together the past 5 years-especially this past Summer. We also helped each other through some tough and heartbreaking times- always supporting each other though each disappointment as soul mates . Mostly I remember the laughs, silliness, and love of life, friends, and family. You will not be forgotten by those of us who knew the "real" you. I love you forever...Claire

My deepest condolences to the Steinhafel Family. John (JD) was like an uncle to me when I played hockey in Madison for the Kodiaks back in 1999. He was so generous and kind, he even had the entire team over for a Canadian Thanksgiving dinner, among many other wonderful gestures. We lost touch and I 'googled' him to see if we could reconnect, only to discover his passing. Please know that I think of him often and truly appreciated everything he was to me. --Steve Parsons

What sad news! JD hired me when Steinhafels first opened in Madison. I truly enjoyed his management style and working for JD, but he always said "You don't work FOR me, you work WITH me". I'll never forget his great sense of humor and all the sthick we did at sales meetings. Will see you again my friend in the big furniture store in the sky. So keep a seat for me in the front row.

Like all of his peers and those older than him, I remember David as being a super terrific kid back in the day when I was (and still am) proud to be his Scoutmaster and mentor. I remember his first summer camp, July, 1977; David, as we knew him, had one of his arms in a cast but that wasn't - and didn't, I'm sure - going to keep him from having fun that whole week. Though he was a scout for only 2 yrs or so, and our paths last crossed at John's services, I'll always hold a special place in my heart for the special kid that David was.
