John Chapman Stocking

John C. Stocking, born on November 27, 1930, in Yonkers, New York, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2025, in Bedford, Massachusetts. A devoted family member, accomplished professional, and passionate lifelong learner, John lived a rich and meaningful life that touched many.

John earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from the University of Connecticut in Storrs, laying the foundation for a dynamic and evolving career. Over the years, he worked as an accountant, computer programmer, and computer consultant for respected organizations including United Illuminating, IBM, and GE Consulting Services. His work reflected not only technical expertise but also a deep commitment to innovation and problem-solving.

From 1950 to 1953, John served honorably in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Stationed as a Guard in Texas, Hawaii, and Idaho, he demonstrated his well known dedication.

Beyond his professional accomplishments and military service, John was a person of many talents and interests. He found joy in painting and singing and was musically gifted-playing guitar, piano, and accordion with enthusiasm. His curiosity extended far beyond Earth; as an avid follower of outer space exploration and astronomical discoveries, John was an member of the Interplanetary Society. This passion for the cosmos reflected his boundless imagination and intellectual curiosity.

John's personal life was marked by deep devotion to family. He is predeceased by his loving wife of 67 years, Celeste Cappelloni Stocking. His bond was one of enduring partnership and mutual respect. He was also fond of his sister Marguerite Stocking Redding also preceded him in death.

John held close relationships with sisters- and brothers-in-law as well as numerous nieces and nephews across generations.

John is survived by his son, John A. Stocking; and grandchildren A. P. Stocking and Jack A. Stocking and a daughter-in-law, Mary Stocking. Love for family was evident in every aspect of his life-a source of strength that brought joy to those around him.
