John Stringer Obituary

Aug. 24, 1933-Sept. 11, 2008 John Franklin Stringer was born on August 24, 1933 and grew up in theParnell community. After serving in the United States Army in Korea, hemarried Barbara Jean Smith on August 5, 1956. They were married for 52 yearsbefore his passing. John is survived by his wife-Barbara; two sons- TommyStringer and his wife Tonya and Paul Stringer and his wife Roxanne; twogranddaughters-Emily Stringer and Hannah Stringer; one brother-HenryStringer; three sisters-Lorene Richardson, Joan Davis, and Bea Royse; aswell as a host of other family and adoring friends. Before his retirement in 1983, he was a longtime employee of the WayneCounty Board of Education where he served first as a teacher and then servedmany years as a principal. He dedicated many years to the education fieldand was loved and respected by students and colleagues alike. John was also a wonderful example of what a Christian man should striveto be. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church where he served as aSunday School teacher, ordained deacon, and a variety of other capacitiesthroughout the years. He was also a long-time member of the GideonsInternational and spent many years distributing Bibles and speaking incountless churches around Kentucky. John took his faith in God veryseriously, always tried to live his faith in tangible ways, and wascommitted to ministering to "the least of these." John passed away on Thursday, September 11, 2008. He was a devotedhusband, a loving father, a proud papo, a committed educator, and mostimportantly, an exemplary Christian man. He will be missed by all who knewhim, but the wonderful memories we have of him will remain. Funeral services were held Sunday, September 14, 2008 at 2 p.m. in thefuneral home chapel with Bro. Chad Fugitt officiating. Burial was in the ElkSpring Cemetery. Hickey and Son Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

To Mrs Stringer and children.I am so sorry to hear of your husband's passing. I remember visiting your house in our neighborhood when I was very young. My parents were Arthur and Ted Kendrick.This is my 32nd year of teaching. May God bless you .
