John R. Sweeney Jr., 75, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving wife at South Strand Emergency Medical Center on March 4, 2019. He was born in Boston, MA, to the late Lillian and John R. Sweeney Sr. John was a graduate of Vesper George College of Arts, in Boston, School of St. Philip Neri, in Boston, and St. Francis University in Loretto, PA. He served in the US Air Force with service is Alaska, Vietnam, and The Pentagon in Washington DC. He recently was given a commendation medal for his duty in Vietnam. He worked as the Vice President of Sweeney News Service and of multiple companies, later retiring from American Airlines in 2014. He was a communicant at St. Michael's Church in Garden City, SC, Ste. Marie Church of Manchester, NH; and St. John the Evangelist Church in Winthrop Ma where he was born. John leaves behind his devoted wife of 48 years, Linda Sweeney of Myrtle Beach, SC; children Bradley Fair and his wife Patricia of Butler, PA, Heather Sweeney Shattuck of Winthrop, MA, Heidi Sweeney Tatelman and her husband Stephen of Georgetown, MA, John Sweeney III and his wife Katherine of Windham, NH, James Russel Sweeney and his wife Athena of Londonderry, NH, Joseph Robert Sweeney and his wife Madelyn of Windham, NH, and Hope Sweeney Caldwell and her husband Kenneth of Charleston, SC; grandchildren Stephen Putney, Jonathan Fair, Katrine Fair, Emmalyn Fair, Cameron Sweeney, Lila Tatelman, Liam Caldwell, Aaron Sweeney, Andrew Sweeney, Dylan Driggers; siblings Mark G. Sweeney of Winthrop, MA, Jane Sweeney Carideo of Winthrop, MA, and Maura Sweeney Doyle of Dorchester, MA, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. SERVICES: Visitation will be held on Thursday March 7, 2019 from 6-9 p.m., at Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, located at 243 Hanover St. Manchester, NH. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday March 8, 2019 at 10 a.m. at Ste. Marie Church, located at 378 Notre Dame Ave. Manchester. Committal prayers will follow at Mt. Calvary Mausoleum.

I am so very sorry to hear the news about Johns passing...he was a wonderful man. I knew John for such a brief time (I worked with him for about 4 years at First Marblehead) but in that very short time, I quickly learned what a terrific person, a wonderful father, and devoted husband he was. It was a privilege to know him the brief time I did... With much love and prayers to you all during this time.
