John Talton Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 19, 2018.
Services for John Joseph Talton, 62, of Whitehouse, will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the Stewart Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bennie Portwood officiating. A Masonic graveside service by Tyler Lodge # 1233 will follow at Cathedral in the Pines Cemetery in Tyler under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home.

Mr. Talton passed away Wednesday, October 17, 2018 in Tyler. He was born November 5, 1955 in Lake Charles, Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana to Tom Edward Talton and Virginia Dare Hale Talton.

While living in Houston, John served as a deacon at Sharpstown Baptist Church and as a third grade Sunday school teacher. He was the Standing Chapter 13 Bankruptcy Trustee for the Eastern District of Texas in the Tyler, Marshall, Lufkin and Beaumont Divisions. He was licensed to practice law in Texas and Louisiana. Outside of work, John was a member of Tyler Lodge #1233 A.F. & A.M. and a Past Patron of Troup Chapter # 421, Order of the Eastern Star and a member of Sharon Shrine in Tyler.

John said he could always remember his anniversary. The nation celebrates its independence on July 4th and he celebrated his lack thereof on July 5th. John's dad always said that John loved his wife, Marsha, and his wife loved him and that a person would have to be crazy if he/she didn't know that. When John married Marsha on July 5, 1986 in Lake Charles, he became "Dad" to John Wesley and Tim. John loved his stepsons - blood lines did not matter. When asked, he always said, "Those are my boys." The boys felt the same way towards him, he was truly their dad.

John enjoyed woodworking, just like his dad and son Tim, because it was taking personal time to make something with his hands. He also cross-stitched. One year for his and Marsha's birthdays, his mother-in-law gave him cross-stitch kits. She told him the kits were for him and the finished products were for Marsha. He always got a kick out of that.

John was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Tommy Edward Talton Jr. He is survived by his loving family including his wife of 32 years, Marsha Dupree Talton; sons, John Wesley Talton and wife Ashley (Lily) of Houston; Timothy Daniel Dupree and fiancee, Kelli Eubank of Whitehouse; brother, David Hale Talton Sr. and wife Marcha of Green Valley, Arizona; sister-in-law, Mary Talton of Green Valley, Arizona; grandchildren, Amber Dupree, Caitlyn Talton Prater, Hannah Cordell, Hayden Charbonneau; great-grandson, Daniel James Dupree; two nephews, David Talton Jr. and Jason Talton, as well as numerous cousins and a multitude of friends.

Pallbearers will be Kelly Johnston, David Wells, Justin Jackson, Brian Davis, Kyle Stowers and Rex Worl of Dixie Masonic Lodge #272.

Visitation is scheduled from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 19, 2018 at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, in Tyler.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any Shiners' Hospitals for Children or Troup Chapter # 421, Order of the Eastern Star (Scholarship Fund), P.O. Box 544, Troup, TX 75789.

John Talton was very respected in the Bankruptcy Bar community. I had the pleasure of meeting him only recently, but found him to be very kind. My sincerest thoughts are with Mr. Talton's family in their time of grief.
