John A. Troiano, 80, of Shrewsbury, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, November 20, 2021. He was predeceased by his wife of 40 years, Rose Marie (DiBenedetto) Troiano, in April 2012.
John is survived by his two daughters, Danielle A. Sprague and her husband Steven of Leominster and Gianna M. Hoban and her husband Sean of Stow; four beloved grandchildren, Nicholas J. Hoban, Domenic A. Hoban, Sean A. Hoban, and Elena R. Hoban; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Robert Troiano. John was born in Worcester, son of the late Ralph and Madeline (Lapriore) Troiano. He graduated from North High School and attended Worcester Junior College. He enlisted in the marine corps after being inspired by the service of his uncles. He enlisted in his early 20s and traveled the world. He completed his service just before the Vietnam war. That experience gave him the confidence to finally ask Rose Marie to go on a date. They fell in love and were married within a year.
John had a long career in construction as a truck driver before retiring in 1994; he was a truck driver for Joseph A. Polito and Sons having previously driven trucks for DeGaetano Brothers. He was an avid swimmer and life member of the Greendale YMCA. He was always ready with a smile and a joke. He enjoyed his home; feeding the birds that would visit his yard; always the talented handyman with his cars and household projects; and he even became quite the skilled cook later in his life (Italian cuisine was his favorite).
He was devoted to his loving family and so proud of his grandchildren. To him, his wife was the love of his life, his whole world and the sun rose and set on her. He lived a good life and in his own words…”thanks to my friends and family, because without their support I wouldn’t have made it so far”. May a son, husband, father, papa and friend finally rest in peace.
Funeral Services are being held privately.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to Boston Children’s Hospital, by visiting www.childrenshospital.org, and then selecting “donate”.
The family has entrusted MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL.

John was my friend. We knew each other for some 25 years. We met at the Greendale YMCA and John and his wife Rose also became my insurance clients. John was caring and always interested in how I was doing and I with him. This is a beautiful thing when there is total trust extending from a personal friendship, and then to business as well. I will miss John and his wonderful wife Rose. They were the best!

To Troiano Family:
Please accept my deepest sympathy. I was saddened to read that John had passed away. We were old friends for many years from the Greendale YMCA. He was an icon at the “Y” who will be greatly missed by many. He always had that smile and laugh when he met you.
Even after I moved away, we still stayed in touch with each other by periodically phoning one another. We just spoke to one another this past Veteran’s Day when I called him to wish him a Happy Veterans’ Day. I am glad I had the opportunity to talk to him. I will miss those calls.
Rest in peace my old friend.

Johnny- you were a true light in my life- I always looked forward to your thoughts, insights and infinite wisdom. You made all my trips to the Greendale YMCA so much fun. Such a gentle soul with such a caring heart. We shared so many stories and true life experiences always always ending in your classic laugh/chuckle. I remember so many stories- how you and Rosie met and your first date sledding together- you two were made for each other and now you are both together again holding hands and enjoying each other for eternity!
God bless you Johnny and hopefully you have found another great lap pool in heaven. No more valet parking for you buddy- I know you are at piece and I feel so blessed to have had you as a good friend!
RIP- Steve "Rosey" Rosenthal

Rest In Peace my good friend. We instantly had a bonded friendship from the first time we met on Alvarado Ave over 60 years ago. Meeting at the YMCA after swimming became a ritual that I greatly looked forward to.
We shared many stories about work, friends and most importantly family. Your love and dedication to your wife Rose ( Rowy) was inspiring and you never failed to mention your beautiful daughters.
John will always hold a special place in my heart.
May his memory be eternal.
