I am shell shocked. Just finding this out is even worse. I really did not know any others to pass this on to me so I am just thrown off making a statement. I met John through a friend of his and mine (who left the area too and lost contact with) while he was working at PAX River Md. I would have lunch with him at I-HOP a just have a wonderful time talking about anything. In his position he what I often said management needs to follow, would help anyone no matter what. I feel so left out of the loop sometimes, but this really takes a toll. What I truly remember what John would tell me "Don't Give UP". And with that I will never give up. Thank You John for all your help. My regards to his family..Sorry so Late and please understand.

I seemed to be forever going TDY with John. He always, and I mean always, was a great traveling companion. He continually found some way to entertain us. I'm real sorry to hear of his passing. Rich Donnelly, PMEE

I had the pleasure of knowing John back in the 4950th days at WPAFB. He was an inspiration for all us "young" troops. His infectious smile, quick wit and humour, always brightened up the worst situations. Fly high John.

I knew John from the 4950th Test Wing - his aircraft was always ready. Just the thought of John brings a smile to my face. A good man, dedicated NCO, and a terrific friend. God bless you John. I'm sure you're smiling even more today.

I new John as an ARIA aircraft crew chief while assigned to the 4950th Test Wing WPAFB. John was pretty tall and drove a small Triumph or MG sports car and it was funny seeing him get out of it, when he had the convertable top up it looked like his head was comming through the top. May the wings of Angels carry you to your new destination.

I had the pleasure of working with John in the Special OPS Program Office years ago and we recently renewed our acquaintance in B-52 programs. John was tireless in his commitment to getting the best for the US Air Force. He was a good friend and a great comrade. My prayers are with his family. John … you are missed.

I worked with John (JVG as we sometimes called him) on the B-52 program at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. I will always remember the energy and passion he brought to his work. He was the kind of guy who you had no doubt that his loyality was to this great country. His is missed, greatly.

The lives that are lived best are those in the service of others. John served his country, his neighbor, and his family. We are all the better for John having touched our lives.

I only knew John for a short time, however I admire him greatly for his work ethic. To me, John was a person of patience and honesty, always well groomed and professional.

I worked with John in the 4950th Test Wing and shared rooms with him while TDY to Tahiti, Guam and Hawaii and later spent many trips together while we both worked in the B-2 Bomber Program Office.
We didn't talk as much after he went to PAX River, but it was good to see him when he made it back here from time to time.
He'll be missed.

I was John's supervisor for the last 2 years. John was committed to supporting our Nation, he did so every day. He served in conflict, he served in peace. I give thanks for men like John, without whom we would not have this great country. John...rest in peace.

I first worked with John back in 1990 while on the B-2 Program. John was dedicated to his work and his country. His impact to several programs to include the B-2 Spirit, V-22 Osprey, and B-52 Stratofortress was immense. He will be missed greatly as a friend, comrade, and talented acquisition manager. Cheers to John!

I worked with John at Pax River and he was very passionate about his job. He was very open and straight forward and you could always depend on the truth from John. John started the breakfast club that went on for several years. There were as many as 8 people every Saturday. The breakfast club hasn't been the same since he left for Wright Patterson. He was a good friend and will be greatly missed.

John Vangundy was a wonderful man. I only knew him for a short time but felt that I had known him a lifetime. As my supervisor at Wright Patterson for a short time, I thought of him more as a friend. He loved his country very much as well as his work and continued service with the Air Force. He was a proud Vietnam Veteran. I truly enjoyed the short time I had the pleasure of spending with John and he will live on in our hearts. We are truly saddened with the loss of such a great friend. With sympathy and condolences to the family and other friends.

I only had the opportunity to work with John for a year. We always thought it funny that I came to work from Wright-Patterson AFB to PAX River and within a year, he moved from PAX River to Wright-Patterson AFB. John always made me laugh. He was a kind man and compassionate about things he loved. He will be missed. My deepest condolences to John's family and loved ones.
