John Vaughan Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 20, 2025.
John Stuart Vaughan passed away peacefully on May 16, 2025 in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania at the age of 91.

John was born to Dr. Stuart and Edith Vaughan in Buffalo N.Y. He is survived by Ann, his wife of 67 years, and daughters Cammy Wagner (Jeff) of Berwyn, Marcy Tyner (Ty) of Ormond Beach, Florida, Lissa Simpson (Jay) of Devon, and sister Molly Whitman of Minnesota. He was pre-deceased by his older sister, Jean Varney. He was blessed with 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

John earned a BA degree from Dartmouth College and a BS from Cornell's School of Hotel Management. After graduation he served in the US Army. During John's business career in varying aspects of hospital food service and management he created a small consulting firm gaining a national reputation. The pinnacle of his career was the purchase of a local Philadelphia firm which anchored his family in the Philadelphia area. As CEO he grew the business by acquiring new clients in retirement facilities, schools and military operations including West Point and the Naval Hospital in Pensacola, Florida.

John lived a life serving others through the Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church where he was an active and dedicated elder and served on two Associate Pastor Search Committees. His true passion was for the Outreach and Mission councils. This included field work in Mexico, leadership of several clean up teams after Katrina and involvement with Urban Suburban ministries. In addition, he served as a Commissioner to the Philadelphia Presbytery.

In addition to his successful business career and active church life, John was a boating enthusiast including sailing on the Chesapeake, planning get-aways on the waters with Ann, and dreaming of his next boat. They loved to travel both locally and abroad. He cherished the time he spent with his family. John was a beacon to all he knew and enjoyed a life filled with humor.

A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Friday, June 6 at 11:00 AM. All are welcome to attend and celebrate John's life. The service will be available to view at BMPC.org. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Mission Fund of Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church, 625 Montgomery Avenue, Bryn Mawr, PA 19010

Dear Vaughan Family, My condolances to you at this time. I worked for John many moons ago at ARA Services Inc., where John was a Regional Vice President. We did see each other on occasion over the years, as we were both attempting to get new business. I remember him as being very bright and with an entrepreneurial drive. May his memory be a blessing.
