John Correll "Cory" Vaughn, Jr.

August 5th, 1960 - March 24, 2023

John Correll "Cory" Vaughn, Jr., 62, of Hickory passed away peacefully at his home Friday, March 24, 2023. Born August 5, 1960 he was the beloved son of John Correll Vaughn Sr. and Norma Kay Vaughn.

He is survived by his wife Donna Kern Vaughn of Hickory, his children Michael William Vaughn (wife Kaitlyn and son Wyatt Timothy Vaughn) of Georgia and Elizabeth Anne Vaughn of Hickory, his brother Mark Andrew Vaughn (daughter Jennifer Farris) of Hickory, his parents Norma and John Vaughn Sr. of Hickory, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Cory was a kind, quiet, humble, passionate, and compassionate man to all that knew him. He showed his compassion many times even when sitting on his back steps holding a stray cat and crying, comforting it till it passed away. He is a genius at designing and building low riders, hot rods and special designed cars. He had his own 1951 Chevrolet that was his pride and joy that he spent many years building. His model car collection was an ongoing hobby for him. So much of his artistic ability was honored in many of the well-known car enthusiasts' magazines. Cory loved playing his guitar and could get down with the best of them. He was a certified welder and certified body technician. Cory loved his family very much and was so proud of his and Donna's new grandson Wyatt. Michael and Elizabeth's accomplishments couldn't have pleased him more as their father. Cory and Donna were married 40 years this October 2023. Cory and his brother Andy worked so many times on their car projects, going to VW meets and car shows. Cory, Andy and his father John were always searching for older car parts and being participants at the Carlisle Pennsylvania swap meet. Cory and Andy had their own little company called "Vaughn Brothers". Cory was a soul that we lost too soon. He will be truly missed by his family and all that knew him.

Donna, Michael and Elizabeth I am so sorry to hear about Cory's passing. He has been such a constant in our lives as long as I can remember. This truly breaks my heart. Everything you guys put in the obituary was beautiful. He really was one of the most kindest, most compassionate people I ever met. There was something truly special about him. I know mom was waiting at the gates on him. She always thought the world of him too. I will be praying for you guys in the coming days and weeks.

My heart goes out to this wonderful family. I remember playing with Cory and Andy during the Derby days when they were little. They were leaping off their bunk beds and we looked over the old Chevy in the carport and played in the front yard. In the last few years I traded notes with Cory in support of his Facebook pages. Such an artist in so many ways.
