John Phillip Voris, 78, of Downers Grove, passed away peacefully at home on April 1, 2025. John was born in Chicago, where he grew up in the Beverly neighborhood and attended Christ the King and St. Laurence High School. John served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Pensacola, FL. Afterward, he came back to Chicago and became a member of the Chicago Board of Trade and the Chicago Options Exchange for 30 years. He spent 20 years with Coldwell Banker as a realtor, selling commercial and residential properties.

John was an amazing single father for years until he married Betsy Bauer in 1989. He was known for his big personality and loved cooking and hosting friends and family for gatherings. As a barbecue enthusiast, John enjoyed being part of the Chicago Ribfest in the mid to late 1980s and made his beloved "Uncle John's BBQ sauce" for loved ones and friends. He also proudly owned the sports and live music bar "Traffic Jam" in the River North neighborhood in Chicago. He loved music, especially blues and R&B. He will be greatly missed by family, friends, and colleagues who are deeply saddened by the loss of their strong and confident husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend.

John was preceded in death by his parents Kathryn (Fisher) and George Voris, his siblings George "Mickey" Voris, Nancy Gleason and Patricia Gavin and brother-in-laws Marty Gleason and Tom Gavin. He is survived by his wife Betsy (Bauer) Voris, his children, Jennifer Composono (Mike), John Voris Jr. (Christy), Kevin Voris, Julie Coleman (Bob), his siblings, Stephen Voris (Liz), Casey Voris (Roxanne), Katie Campbell (Mark) and his sister-in-law Dorothy Voris, His grandchildren Mike, Nick and Luke Composono, Scarlett and River Voris, Jenna and Owen Smick, Timothy and Vivian Coleman, and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will take place on Thursday, April 10, 2025 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 8404 S. Cass Avenue, Darien, IL. Visitation will be at 9:45 AM followed by a funeral mass at 10:45 AM.

John was always so much fun. I remember when Betsy met him. We were nice Catholic girls running around Lincoln park having fun.
Great memories of then and when Julie and Kevin were little we would go over to Betsy and John´s and have fun, the kids played. Always kind and fun. May he be at peace with the angels.
