John J. Wachter

John J. Wachter, 84 of Galena, IL passed away Friday, August 9, 2024, at Midwest Senior Care Community. A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 23, 2024, at 11:30 AM in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Galena. Military honors will be accorded graveside by Galena VFW Post #2665 and American Legion Post #193. The Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena is assisting the family. He was born January 27, 1940, in Dubuque, IA the son of Clarence and Bernice (Leglar) Wachter. John graduated from Scales Mound High School with the class of 1958. He was a veteran of the Korean War. John was united in marriage to Marian Wedige on June 28, 1962, in Shullsburg, WI and she preceded him in death on March 27, 2023. He was an electrician by trade and worked for Renaissance Restoration, and Petitgout Electric and retired from the City of Galena Sewer Treatment Plant. He enjoyed playing cards, and bingo. John was an avid Cubs and Bears fan. He is survived by two sons, John (Margaret) and Donald Wachter, a daughter Mary Beth, five grandchildren, two brothers, Cletus (Shirley Hulscher) and Lewis (Maggie) Wachter, and his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and a son, Michael.
