John Joseph Wasser, 93, of Greeley, passed away June 10, 2011 at the NCMC Hospice Inpatient Unit. He was born December 23, 1917 in Shenandoah, Pennsylvania to Leon and Theofila Wasser, immigrants from Lithuania. He was one of ten children. After graduating high school, he joined the Army Air Corp from 1942-1945. On August 28, 1948, John was united in marriage to Frances Stenger in Greeley, where they resided until moving to Northglenn in 1961. They moved back to Greeley in 2004. In the 1950’s he worked in manufacturing, then later was self employed as a salesman for Industrial products and then worked in Custodial Maintenance for Adams County School District 12. John was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Northglenn, where he also sang in the choir. More recently he was a member of Saint Peters Catholic Church in Greeley. He was also a member of the Happy Harpers Harmonica Band that toured Northern Colorado. He was known as the Harmonica Man. He enjoyed playing many instruments including the Ukulele, guitar, piano and spoons. He used that talent by participating in many talent shows and was named the 2008 Senior Idol. He participated in the Senior Olympics, where he won several gold medals in Horseshoes. John was also a member of the 9-11-2009 Honor Flight to the WWII Memorial in Washington D.C. John is survived by his sons: David Wasser and wife Debbie of Greeley; Al Wasser of Westminster; Mark Wasser of Lakewood; daughters: Ellen Wasser of Colorado Springs; Karen Height and husband Tom of Eaton; Mary Wulf of Pueblo; brother: Edward Wasser of Philadelphia and three grandchildren: Heather Height of Portland, OR; Thomas Height Jr. of Eaton and Ben Wasser of Fort Collins. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Frances on July 3, 2006 and several brothers and sisters. A viewing will be held from 5-7pm, Wednesday, June 15 at the Allnutt Macy Chapel. Services will be held at 10:00am, Thursday, June 16 at St. Peters Catholic Church with interment following at Linn Grove Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care in care of Allnutt Funeral Service, 702 13th Street, Greeley, CO 80631.
