John Willms Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Sep. 12 to Sep. 14, 2018.
Dr. John Willms, 93, passed peacefully to be with his Lord Jesus on September 10, 2018 after a battle with cancer and health complications related to his age.

A long time resident and practicing physician in Prince George, John and his wife Frances, moved to the North in 1956. At that time, John was one of nine doctors in Prince George and quickly took on multiple roles at the Prince George Hospital including surgery, anaesthesia and obstetrics, in addition to caring for the day-to-day medical needs of local families. He loved serving in his local community, but John also committed his life to directly serving those around the world who made less than $1 a day. This led John and Frances to join numerous Christian-based charitable global relief organizations through which they voluntarily served over 10 years in various countries including Thailand, Paraguay, Zaire, Vietnam, Nepal and Zambia.

John is survived by his loving wife and soul mate Frances, his daughter Ann (Terry) and sons Peter (Carole) and Michael (Manisha). Also mourning his passing are his grandchildren Megan, Stephanie, Katrina (Barry), Kirsten (Kyle), Rhys and Alexander and great grandchildren Madelynn and Edison. He is predeceased by his two brothers and four sisters and most sadly by his great grandson Stevie.

A service celebrating John's life will take place at Westwood Mennonite Brethren Church in Prince George on Friday, September 14th at 1:00pm.

John and Frances committed long term to the support of Canadian Foodgrains Bank (https://foodgrainsbank.ca/), an organization committed to the support of impoverished people around the world. As a family, we are also forever indebted to the amazing work of the staff at the Prince George Hospice. In John's memory, and in lieu of flowers, a donation to either of the above organizations would honour his life of service to God and bless the people he strove to help throughout his life.

Our condolences to you, Frances, and to the entire family. John was such an encouragement to so many and both of you were encouraging, accepting, and laughed with us through good times and tough times. He was such a wonderful example to us of a servant heart.
Hugs to you from Ron and Elaine Crawford, now in White Rock after many years in Prince George.
