John S. Young

John S. Young, 87 of Harrisburg passed on to the next life on Monday January 2nd. While in his youth he was blessed to see so much of this country doing an endless variety of jobs ranging from cook to truck driver and farm hand. His adult life was spent as a licensed electrician retiring from Masland Carpet in Carlisle PA. After John retired he returned to an early love…music. This love was sparked while singing in his Episcopal Church Acapella Boys Choir in his home state of New Jersey. Over the years John played various wind instruments in several local groups including The Hometown Brass Quintet and Quartet, The Keystone Concert Band and their wood wind ensemble, the KCB the "Day Timers", the Camp Hill Presbyterian Church Brass Ensemble, The West Shore Symphony and his love…The New Cumberland Town Band. You may have heard him in one of his speaking parts at a local concert. John was also blessed with the gift of writing musical arrangements, which he put his whole soul into, for the bands he played in and for his friends who had their own groups.

John also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, in ink, tinkering with things around the house, and working on his computer which he mastered almost as if to prove that his generation could keep up.

John was predeceased by his wife Gloria. He is survived by his daughter Debbie Scheib and her husband Leonard of Enhaut PA; his son Raymond of Harrisburg PA; his daughter Mary Nelson of Duvall WA; his granddaughter Elexis Boyer of Bothell WA; and one great granddaughter Sophia Boyer of Midland Texas.

There will be a service to celebrate John's life on Friday January 27th at 2:00PM at The Camp Hill Presbyterian Church (thechpc.org) officiated by Dr. David Roquemore.

The family would ask that in lieu of flowers a donation be made to the New Cumberland Town Band, P.O. Box 209 New Cumberland, PA 17070 in John's memory. The legacy would mean so much to him.
