CASON, JOHNNIE LEON age 77, of Copperas Cove, Texas passed away January 10, 2013. Mr. Cason was born September 5, 1935 in Dallas, Texas to John Oliver and Beatrice O'Dell Elzey Cason. Upon graduation from Irving High school, he joined the US Navy, serving as Petty Officer 1st Class aboard the USS Rupertus from 1954 -1959. His tour of duty took him to many places in the Pacific and South Pacific. Upon his return from the Navy he worked for America Fore Loyalty Insurance Company as a boiler inspector and elevator inspector. While at the insurance company, he met Barbara Jean Durham. They celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary on November 17, 2012. Mr. Cason started Cason Equipment Company, a service station maintenance and repair business, in 1969 in Irving with his father. He settled his family in Grand Prairie, Tx and lived there until 1998 when he and his wife moved to her family's farm land near Copperas Cove. There he raised his grandson Clifford Cason. He also tried his hand at raising goats and cattle. Mr. Cason enjoyed spending time at his lake house on Cedar Creek Lake, teaching his kids to water ski and fish. He was able to build or fix anything. He enjoyed cruise vacations with his wife. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Jean of Copperas Cove, one daughter, Sherry Ammel and husband, James of Houston, TX; two sons, Michael and his wife, Barbie of Grand Prairie, TX and Bryan and his wife, Chrystie of Payne Springs, TX; sister, Janice Meador of Mansfield, TX; grandchildren, Holly Glover, Clifford Cason who with Olivia Travis are expecting his first great grandchild, Rusti Thompson,Ciara Rudloff, Alexis Cason, Allison Cason, Sara Ammel, Julia Ammel, and Jamie Ammel; and step-grandchildren, Krystal Housewright, Garrett Rudloff, and step great grandchildren, Will and Andrea Housewright. Visitaion will be held Monday, Januray 14, 2013 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 PM, Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at Restland Wildwood Chapel in Dallas with interment to follow at Restland Memorial Park.
