Jefferson - Evans Funeral Home, Jefferson, Georgia, announces the death of Mr. Johnnie Spence, age 54, of Jefferson, Georgia, who passed away Wednesday, April 4, 2007, following a brief illness. Johnnie had been fighting lung cancer for the past year. He was the son of the late Curtis and Lucille Grier Spence. Johnnie was a dedicated employee of Leon Farmer & Company, Athens, Ga., for 34 years.
Survivors include his wife and companion of 25 years, Susan Kincaid Spence, Jefferson, Ga.; Best Friends, Checker & Speedway; Close friends who have never missed a day calling Johnnie and giving their support during his fight with cancer, Judy & Jim Flanagan, Robyn England, Hank & Sarah Smith, of Daytona Beach, Fla., Dover Gooch, Sara Lynn Shoe, and all employees of Leon Farmer & Company; Uncle Lamar & Sarah Grier, Uncle Herschel Spence,; several cousins, nieces, and nephews; Sister, Gloria Spence Henderson, of Duluth, Ga.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2007, at 11:00 a.m., from the Chapel of Evans Funeral Home with Rev. Joe Hardy officiating. Interment to follow at Woodbine Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be: Greg Gillespie, Rick Shepard, Hank Smith, Shane Brown, Bobby Martin, Leon Farmer III, Hal Pruitt, and Chris Collins.
Flowers are optional or memorials may be sent to: Vista Care Hospital, 150 Ben Burton Road, Bogart, GA 30622.
Evans Funeral Home, Jefferson, Ga., is in charge of arrangements. (706) 367-5467.

Susan i just returned to work today and heard about johnnie. I enjoyed working with him. He was a good man and will be greatly missed.

Susan I am so sorry for your loss. I worked with Johnnie at Leon Farmer & Company for over 21 years and he was a wonderful co-worker and friend. He was always willing to help you out and I never saw him loose his temper. My dear departed mother, Bessie Dial, loved Johnnie too. He will truly be missed by us all.
