ONAWA, Iowa -- Jon M. Brewer Sr., 66, of Onawa passed away Saturday, March 6, 2010, at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at First Christian Church in Onawa, with Pastor Todd Owen officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery at Blencoe, Iowa, with military honors by the U.S. Army. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa. Jon Melvin Brewer Sr. was born Jan. 6, 1944, at Blair, Neb., the son of Henry and Melva (Hightree) Brewer. He was raised at Decatur, Neb., and graduated from Decatur High School in 1962. He entered the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam and also trained guard dogs. He was discharged in 1966. He came back to Decatur, Neb., and was employed at Barney's. He was united in marriage to Marilyn Seaton on March 28, 1967, at First Christian Church in Onawa, Iowa. He then started working at IBP as a foreman and retired in 1990 due to ill health. Marilyn passed away on Dec. 10, 1994, in Sioux City. Jon enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid Huskers fan. Survivors include his three children, Traci and her husband, Denny Lasher, Tammy and her husband, Chris Bonham, and Jon Brewer Jr., and his special friend, Kyla Gregory, all of Onawa; 10 grandchildren, Eric Lasher, Justin Lasher, Cody Lasher, Adam Brown, Nathan Bonham, Megan Bonham, Alyssa Gregory, Zachary Brewer, Joshua Brewer and Jakob Brewer of Onawa; and seven brothers and sisters, Terry Brewer of Decatur, Neb., Lonnie and his wife, Connie Brewer of Berthoud, Colo., Paul Brewer of Lyons, Neb., Clark and his wife, Rose Brewer of Sloan, Iowa, Ronald "Toad" and his wife, Mikki Brewer of Omaha, Neb., Fanchon and her husband, Doyle Anderson of Omaha, and Janelle Britton of Sioux City. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and two brothers, Jerry Brewer and Lowell Brewer.
