Jon Robert Colcord, born on August 30, 1934, in Jacksonville, Florida, passed away on July 8, 2023, in Duluth, Georgia, at the age of 89.

Jon led a full and vibrant life marked by his dedication to family, community, and service. After completing his education at Georgia State University, Jon proudly served as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He then embarked on a successful career in finance, starting at the First National Bank of Atlanta and eventually retiring from Cargill, Inc. as a Commodities Futures Broker.

An active member of the Avondale First Baptist, now Gospel Hope Church, for over 60 years, Jon's faith played a significant role throughout his life. His commitment to his community extended beyond his professional and spiritual life into his personal interests. Jon was an avid tennis player, bridge enthusiast, and sailor. He also cherished coaching and attending the sports activities of his children and grandchildren.

Jon is survived by his loving wife, Gail Colcord; sons Robbie, Kim, and Scott Colcord; and daughter Jan Colcord Hall. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and all who knew him.

A memorial service to celebrate Jon's life will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at the Gospel Hope Church, formerly First Baptist Church of Avondale, located at 47 Covington Hwy., Avondale Estates, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Atlanta USO in Jon's memory. Jon's body was generously donated to Emory Hospital, reflecting his spirit of giving and education.

Mr. Colcord (as I knew him) always greeted me with a smile. He had a dry sense of humor and was loved a good laugh. He was a happy man. Kind and warm to everyone. We attended the same church during my childhood and young adult days. He was one of those rocks. Always there. Always happy to be in the house of the Lord. I appreciate the role he played in my youth and know he will be greatly missed by his dear family.
