Jon Whitcomb Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 6, 2015.
Jon Whitcomb, 72, West Fargo, died unexpectedly in St. Cloud, MN early Monday evening, July 6, 2015, while returning home after a family vacation. He leaves behind his wife, Vicky, of 40 years, two sons; Seth (Alicia) of Colorado Springs, CO; Rich (Angie) of Beltrami, MN; two daughters, Krista and Leah of Mankato, MN; brother, Jan (Joann) of Lac du Flambeau, WI; brothers-in-law Brad Roecker (Alice) of Bismarck, ND and C. Blaylock of Bowie, MD; his grandchildren Nathan, Ryan, Allison, Natalie and Bennett ; and nephews Ben, Zac, David, CJ and Mark. Jon was born in Albert Lea, MN April 13, 1943. He graduated from high school in Ellsworth, WI. After serving his country in the U.S. Navy during the early 1960s, he received a business degree from the University of Minnesota. He lived in various places throughout Minnesota and Wisconsin before meeting and marrying Vicky in Marshalltown, Iowa in 1974. In 1987, they settled in West Fargo where they raised their family. Known by many in West Fargo and the F-M area for his warm personality and quirky sense of humor, Jon loved his family very deeply and would do whatever he thought would make them happy. Jon thoroughly enjoyed woodworking, fishing, history, Soduko, the Minnesota Twins, trying to figure out which way the wind was blowing and going to Perkins with Vicky (which was his idea of a good date). He was preceded in death by his parents Glen and Evelyn, sister Joan, nephew Michael, and family dogs Maggie and Molly. His family is very grateful that Jon had such an enjoyable weekend with his wife and daughters before his sudden passing. We are also grateful to the doctors and nurses at the Sauk Centre Hospital and CentraCare Hospital of St. Cloud for their hard work and compassion. In the end, he passed on to the next phase of his life very peacefully. A Memorial Service celebrating Jon's life will be at the West Funeral Home, West Fargo Saturday, July 11at 2:30 p.m. Jon's ashes will be spread at places that have special meaning to him and his family.
