Jonas William Pearson, age 23, went to be with his Savior Jesus Christ on June 25, 2022. Jonas was born at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester Minnesota on July 14, 1998. The youngest of four brothers and older brother to one sister, Jonas was gregarious, outgoing, and known for his effusive spirit. As a child, carrying Jonas was like carrying a bag of happy monkeys. Those who knew him best likened him to Tigger in Winnie-the-Pooh stories- mischievous but with an infectious smile and a lot of energy.
Those who interacted with Jonas most often knew him to be kind, clever and engaging. From the beginning he earned many nicknames, mostly due to his happy nature and tall, skinny frame. He was quick to laugh and never tired of pranks. He was athletic and did well in many sports, but basketball was his true love and passion. He spent hundreds of hours shooting hoops and hundreds of dollars on basketball shoes, many of which he never wore.
Jonas went on to study business at the University of Wisconsin, and routinely was a straight A student. Jonas loved Milwaukee. His private sanctuary was in Riverside Park on the east bank of the Milwaukee River. In the midst of a bustling urban center, he could sit in the woods, enjoying the view of God’s creation as the river made its way through the city, read his Bible and pray. Jonas spent many hours there ….
But as Jonas grew, we realized that he was growing into who the Book of Matthew calls a bruised reed (Matthew 12:20). More and more the sensitive spirit revealed itself and the gregarious, outgoing Jonas started to fade away. His love, compassion, and his gentleness were always easily expressed, but quiet pain started to fill his heart.
Then, on June 25 in that special place that Jonas called his own sanctuary, the bruised reed broke under unseen but oppressive forces. Jonas went to his Master’s arms.
In the New Testament Book of Romans, the Apostle Paul states “although I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being I delight in God’s Law; but I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner to the law of sin within me …… Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? Thanks be to God Who delivered me through Jesus Christ our Lord’’ (Romans 7:21-25)
The bruised reed broke. Jonas lost his last battle with temptation. But Jonas’ hope is not in his own righteousness. His hope is only in the atoning death of Jesus Christ on the cross for his sins. While he lost his last contest, he went to be with his Savior who says “no one can snatch them (Jonas) out of My hand (John 10:28).
As a family, a part of each of us has died with the passing of Jonas.
For us who remain, it is a time of intense weeping. We take great comfort that our Lord and Savior wept at the tomb of Lazarus (John 11:35). But after a season of weeping and mourning, let us not remember Jonas by his death, but by his life.
Jonas, we love you dearly and we miss you so.
Grieving Jonas are his mother Elizabeth J. Pearson nee Johnson, his father Paul J. Pearson, his brothers, Clarence Joseph "CJ" (Haylee) Pearson, Clayton John Pearson, John Isaac "Jack" Pearson, and his sister Eden Elizabeth Pearson.
Also grieving are his Grandmothers Shirley J. Pearson-Hendrickson and Rosemarie Johnson-Nelson and Grandfather George Nelson.
Preceding Jonas in death are Grandfathers Clarence J. Pearson, Paul J. Johnson, Melvin Hendrickson.
Also preceding Jonas in death is sibling PJ Pearson, conceived and then taken to Heaven before birth.

I want to write this to give my condolences & respect to Jonas´s family:
I just received this devastating news from a friend.. I wish I was aware of this, as I would have attended his funeral along with other college friends of Jonas that were also unaware of his passing..
I first met Jonas in class at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 2018. He had a great sense of humor, was very outgoing, & most importantly, he was a good friend. Myself & a group of friends have countless memories with Jonas all throughout college-hanging out, shooting hoops, grilling all the time, going to the beach, parties, & attending class together..the list can go on. I still have his black King James Bible that he gave to me about 2 years ago. It´s sitting next to me on my nightstand as I type this -He gave me this Bible because wanted to give me the best interpretation of the scripture. This is just one of the many examples that truly shows what kind of person & caring friend he was.
This news breaks my heart & was a shock to all of us. Rest In Peace buddy

I was out of town when Jonus died and just heard of his death today. What a loss to Family and friends. It was my pleasure to have coached him on the Wheaton Heat and to get to know him better. He was always smiling, always happy, and Leah’s working on his basketball skills. That Wheaton Heat team was a favorite of mine and Jonus was a huge reason why. That picture is on display with my other sorts memorabilia and I will look at it often and remember those great days and the fun we had as a TEAM.
My thoughts and prayers are with the Pearson Family, Jonus and all his friends. Rest In Peace Jonus. You will be missed here dearly. I was so blessed to have known you and coached you. God’s Speed.

Dear Elizabeth, Paul and family,
Our love and prayers go out to all your family in this time of need. My fervent prayer is for the outpouring of love and support of so many family and friends to buoy you in this tempest. I am reminded of Jesus as he rebuked the wind and waves in Mark 4:35-41.
We are with you in spirit and wish we were present with you.
All our love,
Edward and Ana Coleman and family

Dear Liz,
I'll never forget the first time I met Jonas ... Tyler brought home another tall, lanky middle school boy while we were grilling and eating out on our patio one summer night. Upon introduction, Jonas smiled his big warm smile that spread completely across his sweet, freckled face. I asked him is he was hungry and would he like a hot dog ... he ate three. He thanked me profusely and told me "how nice it is meet you, Mrs. Therron."
Jonas was always joy to me. He was happy to be with his friends, always considerate and respectful to everyone. Jonas had a light that was unique and it shone brightly. I am thankful that Jonas now has peace and is with our heavenly father. Peace be with you, Jonas. Peace be with all of you, Liz. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory ... forever and ever. Amen.

Dear Liz and Pearson family, We are so very sad to hear about Jonas. Jonas was indeed like Tigger from Winnie-the-Pooh! Jonas was always smiling and kind. Fairly recently, Ian saw Jonas on the Prairie Path and Jonas took the time to chat with Ian. Our family is praying for all of you as you walk through this time of excruciating grief. We are rejoicing, too, because like you said he was rescued by his Savior and we will see Jonas again! Love, The Muellers

Matthew 19:14 but Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.”
Dear Paul,
Life is difficult to comprehend for us mortals on this earth. But rest assured that God has a magnificent plan for Jonas now that he sits by his side. We are all here for you and your family.

We are so saddened to hear of Jonas' passing. I had the true pleasure to coach Jonas in Wheaton youth basketball. I would say to my assistant coaches, "Jonas is such a great kid!" They would completely and genuinly agree. Polite, good natured, respectful, are just a few words to describe Jonas' pleasant personality. Jonas had that smile and sense of humor that engaged all those around him. Jonas will be missed. May the memory of Jonas' infectious smile and energy be eternal. Our prayers to Liz and family. God bless.
