Jonathan Eaton Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 11, 2023.
On Thanksgiving night 2023 Jonathan Lewis Eaton left this world at the age of 38. After many years of struggle his body finally succumbed to the toll of the disease known as addiction. We, as his family, cannot let Jonathan's memory be defined by his addiction alone. We are the first to admit that it took an ugly toll on all of us. The worst part was the rise and fall - the days, weeks, months when all was well followed by the insidious relapses that brought us all tumbling down into various parts of our own hell.

As we mourn his passing we remember the beauty and wonder of Jonathan, his creativity and strength, his tenderness and love. When Jonathan loved, he loved deeply. We reflect on Jon's addiction as his misguided way of fitting in, bearing brutal childhood wounds, and surviving in a world where he just could not find his place. We remember Jon's wicked sense of humor which was brilliantly quick and fresh. His culinary talent, including his chicken curry and olive tapenade which were unrivaled. His passion for music and travel. His unique and somewhat surprising talent with babies, Jon loved being around babies and babies loved being around Jon. But most of all we remember Jon's compassion . Jon's connection with the vulnerable among us was remarkable. He was always ready to help anyone he could in any way he could and often at his own expense though he had little.

He understood vulnerability with a non judgmental tenderness that others were often unable to show him. Jon was horrified by the injustice and brutality of this world, fiercely defending those who could not defend themselves. He sought peace and comfort where he could. Those of us that were privileged to truly know and love this man pray with all of our hearts that he has finally found the peace that he pursued. We are, his proud and adoring mother, Deborah Thomason, his step father Charles Erickson, his loving sister Libby DeFehr and her husband Daniel, his nephew Julian DeFehr, and his beautiful children, Lewis, Hunter, Cyrus and Karla Eaton.

Jonathan was also survived by his grandmother Bobbi Thomason who passed away just 36 hours after him never knowing about her first grandchild's death, his Uncle Rodney Thomason, Aunt Courtney Thomason and cousins Nicholas Thomason and his partner Nicole, and Kristina Thomason. He was preceded in death by his beloved grandfather Lewis Thomason and his step father Bill Doody. Services are private. The family requests that remembrances be made to Saving Teens in Crisis Collaborative at www.savingteens.org

Rest in peace our beautiful cherished boy, may you feel eternal love and light shine upon you.
