BIDDEFORD -- Jonathan T. Gooding, 47, of Biddeford, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012, at his home in Biddeford, surrounded by his family, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Jonathan was born in Portland on May 24, 1965, the son of Merritt and Roenna (McInnis) Gooding. He graduated in 1984 from Deering High School.
After high school Jon enlisted in the United States Navy, serving during Desert Storm. He was very proud of his service.
Jon was an accomplished machinist. He worked at Nichols in Portland, Nissan Bakery and more recently for The Portland Press Herald.
He was a dedicated father, loved to watch his son Sean play soccer and enjoyed being with his family. Jon was an honest man who was an excellent provider for his family. He would tell you what was on his mind and always tried to do the right thing. Everyone in his life knew that he loved them unconditionally.
Jon was predeceased by his grandmother, Florence Gordon, and grandparents, Lawrence and Marvis Gooding. Jon is survived by his parents, Merritt and Roenna Gooding of Portland; his good friend, Patricia Gooding and their son Sean Gooding of Biddeford; his brother, Tracy Gooding, wife Erica, and their son Reece of Texas; his aunt and uncle, Glen and Moira Vincent; and cousins, Amy Cross, Todd Vincent, Maryann Anderson and their families, all from Maine and Connecticut. Jon also leaves behind his best friend and 'brother,' Franklyn Woods and his wife Colleen, and also his good friend Cindy Pebenito. His father from Florida, John Flagg, also survives him.
His family would like to thank all his friends: Michelle, Rachel, Stacia, Larry, Melissa and Rick from Southern Maine Hospice who helped tend to him in his final weeks.
Visiting hours will be on Friday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Cote Funeral Home, 87 James St., Saco. A memorial service will follow at 12 p.m. at the funeral Home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Portland after the funeral. Arrangements are by Cote Funeral Home. To send private condolences, please go to www.cotefuneralhome.com.
