Jonathan Huffstutler Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Nov. 10 to Nov. 14, 2023.
Gadsden - Jonathan Andrew Huffstutler, 45, passed away on November 7 after a two-and-a-half-year battle with cancer. He was born in Gadsden, Alabama on March 28, 1978. After graduating from Gadsden High School in 1996, he attended the University of Alabama-Birmingham and obtained a Bachelor's degree as well as a Master's degree in Literature, specializing in Old English Studies under the mentorship of Dr. Stephen O. Glosecki, who passed away in April of 2007. While working to complete his Master's degree, Jonathan met Susan Sailors, and the two married in May of 2005. Jonathan graduated from Ave Maria School of Law in 2011 and practiced law in Gadsden from September of 2011 to December of 2022.

Jonathan was an active member of the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection in Rainbow City. He served on Vestry from 2015 to 2017. His favorite ministry was Resurrection's food pantry, Rainbow Rice and Beans. A funeral service will be held at Resurrection on November 11, and a Celebration of Life will be held in early 2024. He had a passion for helping others, and even when he was diagnosed with cancer in June of 2021, he continued helping others until the day he literally could no longer physically do so.

Music was his passion, but he also enjoyed reading, watching movies, playing video games, and rescuing every cat he could. If you wish to honor his memory, please send donations to Kitty Kat Haven and Rescue in Hoover, AL. He had many cats growing up, and over the years, he and Susan were owned by seven fabulous felines (males Shadow and Sunny; and females Motley, Latte, Wren, Slayer, and Spooky). He is survived by his wife, Susan; mother, Barbara; father, Randall; sister, Jennifer; stepbrothers Walden and Candler; and fur babies Slayer, Spooky, and Sunny. Spooky has taken over his chair and devoted herself wholeheartedly to keeping it warm.

My sincere condolences to the Huffstutler family. I was a fellow GHS classmate and we both attended/graduated from UAB at the same time.

I remember the first time I ran into Jonathan at UAB; it was a pleasant surprise to see a fellow classmate from GHS! Huffstutler was always kind, easy-going, and a great student.

I was saddened to hear of Jonathan's transition...a stark reminder for all of us to live life with everything we've got, and to do so passionately and with love.

My prayers to you all, and may God sustain you with His strength in the days to come.

Sincerely,

Trindi Mitchell
